3 Sep 1913.  Mr Hobson the new Drill Instructor visited the school this morning.
5 Sep 1913.  Attendance not very good due to it being very wet.  There are 656 names on the books, the largest number ever.

22 Sep 1913.  Gwen Rowlands (Std 6) gained a prize in needlework open to all England.  This is the first time a pupil has gained a prize outside the school.
3 Oct 1913.  Miss Haines to be transferred to Central Mixed School.
8 Oct 1913.  Dr Burpitt examined notified children & excluded 3 girls.
22 Oct 1913.  7 girls took the exam for admission to the Higher Elementary School
23 Oct 1913.  2 girls attended the Clinic this afternoon.
27 Oct 1913.  Attendance low this morning as it is very wet & many children have very poor boots.
29 Oct 1913.  Miss Haines, who has been an assistant for over 8 years is transferred to Central Mixed School, her pace taken by Miss G Farmer, certified teacher.  School year ends.

5 Jan 1914.  School re-opened. Welsh will be taken on Monday, Wednesday & Friday afternoons. Mrs Thomas appointed Welch teacher in place of Mrs Humphries who has resigned
Report of visit 25 & 28 Nov 1913.  [extracts] School is taught in 12 classes averaging over 50 pupils, 2 classes are permanently located in the central hall.  The arithmetic of the top class though neat in working was stereotyped.  The girls are not as intelligent as could be desired & are intellectually slow, knowledge of local geography & history is weak.

30 July 1915.  Miss Dimmack to be transferred from Corporation Rd Girls School to take the place of Miss Pugh.  Miss D Farrell who has been a Pupil Teacher for 3 years leaves today to go to Maindee Girls School after the holidays.
21 Sep 1915.  Miss AE Newman leaves today to enter Fishponds College.
18 Oct 1915.  School will start at 1.30pm instead of 2pm to save coal & gas during war time.
22 Oct 1915.  Mr Davies, Welsh Instructor finished today.  His place will be taken by Miss Hughes.

24 Jan 1916.  Miss Palmer & Miss Jones have been transferred back to Durham Rd Girls & Durham Rd Infants.  Miss Roberts & Miss Coates will replace them.
28 Feb 1916.  Miss Wheeler absent through the death of her mother.
28 March 1916.  Due to a heavy fall of snow during the night, trains are not running from several parts.  Because of that Miss Dimmack & miss Stretton unable to be present.  Miss Stretton arrived later on when the trains began to run.
2 May 1916.  Miss Coates transferred to Durham Rd Boys school.
17 May 1916.  66 girls have gone to the theatre to see Henry V which is being given especially for children.
19 May 1916.  Miss Cossham leaves today to take up duties in a Bank.
22 May 1916.  Miss Treloar has been appointed to replace Miss Cossham.  Medical inspection of children between 8 & 9 takes place this morning & every morning this week.
23 Ju8n 1916.  Std 2b has gone for a walk to Bettws Lane in charge of Miss Roberts.
7 July 1916.  Std 7 girls have not paid their visit to the laundry as it was not suitable to the manageress, she will let me know on which day to send them.
10 July 1916.  26 girls from Std 7 have gone to the Laundry & Pottery this afternoon.
21 July 1916.  Std 5 girls walked to Caerleon & Std 3a to Barrack Hill.

21 Sep 1916.  Lessons are given this morning on the heroism of Jack Cornwall.  Collections are being made towards endowing a bed in his memory.

9 Nov 1916.  Girls in several classes will take needlework the whole of the afternoon on each afternoon that needlework is arranged in order to get sacks for the Army finished as quickly as possible
13 Nov 1916.  Instructions from the Education Office to discontinue with the sacks.
20 Nov 1916.  The sad news that Miss Dimmack passed away on Saturday evening.  This is a dreadful blow to the teachers & children alike as Miss Dimmack was much liked.
21 Nov 1916.  Head Teacher & Miss Wheeler will attend Miss Dimmack’s funeral which takes place at 12.00
8 Jan 1917.  Mrs Poole still here as ‘Supply’ as there has been no replacement for Miss Dimmack.

25 Nov 1935.  The school assembled in the hall to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Girls School at Marshes Rd by Miss EB Hawkes on 23rd Nov 1885.  Of the past 4 Head Mistresses the following were present:-  EM Machell (nee Hawkes 1885-1911;  K Taggart 1926-1929;  NB Bacon 1929-1935.  Miss Monroe 1911-1926 being unable to attend due to her sister’s serious illness, the Staff sent her a box of flowers.  Her message of good wishes was read out.  Miss Rees & Mr Lewis Thomas, Head Teachers of the Infants & Boys Depts; Miss Gillard (Domestic Science Teacher) & Mrs Fisher, Chairman of the Marshes Rd & Crindau Old Girls Association were also present.  Adoption of the school motto “Play the Game”

14 May 1937.  The scholars assembled at 2pm for their Coronation tea & entertainment.  The drill squad gave their display of Physical Training in the playground to the scholars in fancy dress.  After a fancy dress parade the scholars marched to the hall where Mrs Ford presented them with a Union Jack & gramaphone records as a Coronation memento. After she unveiled a photograph of the Royal Family

14 Jul 1937.  The visit of their Majesties King George VI & Queen Elizabeth.  The scholars left at 7.45am to march to the portion of Cardiff Rd allotted to the school.  Afterwards the scholars were marched back & dismissed in Dos Rd & Albany St about noon
