Evans, H. Challinder was born at Llanelly, Carmarthenshire, in 1848, and is the son of the late Captain David Evans, of that port. He was educated at a private school in that town, and at a college near Havre, France. Entering upon a commercial career, he for many years acted as the foreign representative of Messrs. Partridge Jones & Co. Limited, the well-known colliery proprietors of Newport, which post he resigned upon being appointed the local manager of the Blaenavon Company Ltd., at Newport. In this position Mr. Evans was brought into prominent and beneficial contact with the business life of Newport, and always evinced a steady desire to use his influence wherever possible in furthering the commercial and maritime interests of our town. He is a member of the Newport Harbour Board, and has twice been vice-president of the Newport Chamber of Commerce. He has recently been appointed to manage the affairs of his company at Cardiff.
