Born and raised in Newport, Monmouthshire, England, but for the last 30 years resident in Newport, Wales. No clash of loyalties - he did try to get his passport endorsed "Anglo-Welsh" but had to settle for "British".

Educated at Church Road Elementary School and St Julians High School.

Left school in 1944 to join the war-time Royal Navy, spending 2½ years on a destroyer in the Far East.

After demobilisation entered the Civil Service and continued to serve the Queen for a further 40 years.

On retirement became interested in local history and on discovering that Newport had never had its history properly recorded, researched the subject for 5 years and finally published "The History of the Borough of Newport" in paperback. .

Lately engaged in writing a sequel to his history of the town: "The Millennium Years" and also an account of the founding of Australia: "The First Five Years".
