Thomas Henry Mordey

Mordey, Thomas Henry was born in Newport, his father being a native of Sunderland. He commenced business here in 1884, when the firm of Mordey, Jones & Co., shipowners, shipbrokers, coal exporters, &c., was established. For the last 28 years he has represented the shipowners upon the Newport Harbour Commission, and occupied the position of chairman of that board for 1904-5. He has been for 24 years a Harbour Commissioners' representative on the Pilotage Commission. He was one of the founders of the Newport Shipowners' Association, of which he has been the chairman, and was a member for eleven years of the old Newport School Board. He has been twice president of the Newport Chamber of Commerce Incorporated, and chairman of the Joint Committee appointed by the public bodies of the town in connection with the local Railway Bills in Parliament.
