Newport High School, Bettws, 1973

Newport High School was originally sited at Queens Hill near the centre of Newport. In 1967 a competition was held for architects to design a new school to be constructed on a large site at Bettws, outside the town. The winning design, from 165 entries, was built in 1972 only to be demolished in 2009 after a new school was built on the site.

One way only approach road, with raised pedestrian path. Exit route runs parallel. The triple mast on the top right hand corner of the picture is a light fitting made from scaffolding tube.
