David Hall has sent us the following information:

"The Four masted Barque in Photo No 1247.Is the 'Oceana'. She is in Mordey Carneys Dry Dock, the 'Mary'. In for a chipping off and re-paint. She was built as the 'Mowhan' by Pickergill of Sunderland in 1892. L. 317.6, B. 44.2. 2873 Gross tons. In 1900 she was sold to German owners and re-named 'Oceana'. On her visit to Newport her Captain was H.P. Breckwoldt. The photograph was taken in October 1905 just a day or so before the Mordey Carneys Fire (October 17th 1905) in which she was lucky not to catch fire. The ' Oceana ' was handed over to Italy as war reparations in 1920, and scrapped at Alicante in 1921."
